Plantar Hyperhidrosis

Plantar (foot) hyperhidrosis is sometimes helped by endoscopic thoracic sympathectomy if it has been used for the hands.  Isolated plantar sweating can be helped by lumbar sympathectomy which destroys the ganglion controlling the sweat glands on the feet.  This operation is much less common than the ETS described above.  This is because most sufferers have both the hands and the feet affected, but they usually choose to have the hands treated.  Iontophoresis may be helpful.

It is unwise to treat both hands and feet since this could produce severe excess sweating on the trunk.
